  • Every dollar is used effectively to ensure safe, pest-free homes

WHY IT MATTERS

  • Many resource-limited families cannot afford pest control.

  • Bed bug infestations can prevent healthcare workers from providing care.

  • Assessment-Based Pest Management (APM) reduces re-infestation.

PFHI Origin Story

Pest Free Homes Indiana began with a simple but urgent truth: no one should lose access to medical care because of bed bugs. Yet across Indiana, families who rely on visiting nurses or in-home support are suddenly left without care when an infestation is discovered. What should be a solvable inconvenience becomes a health crisis that causes isolation, fear, and preventable suffering.

Kevin Farrell and Lawrence Lobdell have seen this firsthand. Kevin, a retired Rolls-Royce engineer, spent six years running a specialized bed bug treatment company, helping hundreds of families eliminate infestations entirely. He saw the emotional toll bed bugs take — the shame, the exhaustion, the panic. Meanwhile, Larry, an Environmental Health Specialist with over 22 years at the Marion County Public Health Department, has been a champion for safe and healthy homes through initiatives like Sleep Tight and Pesticide Poisoning Prevention. He has supported countless residents and agencies with bed bug education rooted in public health science and Integrated Pest Management.

Together, they recognized a devastating gap: bed bugs were interrupting healthcare when patients needed it most — and no organization existed to intervene. PFHI was created to fill that gap, combining technical expertise, public health knowledge, and compassionate support. Today, PFHI works tirelessly to ensure that vulnerable residents can remain safe in their homes and continue receiving the medical care they depend on.

Because everyone deserves both a healthy home and the dignity of care.

Our Founders

  • Kevin Farrell

    Kevin Farrell

    PRESIDENT

Kevin Farrell is a resident of Brownsburg who worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 30 years and retired from Rolls-Royce. In 2012 he started a Pest Control company with the focus on bed bug treatment in residential homes, multi-family units and group homes. This company guaranteed bed bug treatments and operated from 2012 to 2018 when the company was sold to another Indianapolis firm. Kevin has personally treated hundreds of homes for bed bugs and each of these were deemed bug free upon completion. Specializing in the treatment of bed bugs provided the experience required to be able to insure successful treatment.

  • Lawrence Lobdell

    VICE PRESIDENT

Lawrence Lobdell is a life-long resident of Indianapolis who has worked for the Marion County Public Health Department as an Environmental Health Specialist within Vector Borne Disease Prevention, Healthy Homes, Environmental Consumer Management, and Senior Care, as well as the point of contact for the Sleep Tight Initiative and the Pesticide Poisoning Program. Over the past 23 years he has advocated, assisted, and advised agencies, their employees and residents throughout Marion County and the state of Indiana regarding bed bugs and how to prevent infestations. Larry is a proponent of APM (assessment-based pest management) and adamantly supports this sustainable approach of control that minimizes economic, health and environmental risks.
